Tehran Times Art Desk
TEHRAN -- A retrospective of Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad began on Monday in London.
Sponsored by the British Film Institute (BFI), the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the Insight Institute, and the Iran Heritage Foundation, the program runs until April 30.
Bani-Etemad’s movies “Canary Yellow”, “Foreign Currency”, “Gilaneh”, “Mainline”, “The May Lady”, “Off-Limits”, “Our Times”, “The Blue Veil”, “To Whom Will You Show These Films Anyway?”, and “Under the Skin of the City” are to be screened during the event.
In addition, the Insight Institute will be holding a week-long workshop in which each participant will get to make a short film under Bani-Etemad’s guidance. Some of the films made at these master classes will be screened at the venue of the National Film Theater.
Other programs include a one-day conference scheduled on April 19 at SOAS to review the life and works of Bani-Etemad and her role in contemporary Iranian cinema.
Experts and scholars from various countries are to give lectures at the conference, which is being organized by Professor Annabelle Sreberny and Saeid Zeidabadinejad.
Abbas Kiarostami is the only other Iranian cineaste whose career has been highlighted in a retrospective in Britain.
