Iran to complain to FIFA over Charlton’s perfidy
Tehran Times Sports Desk
TEHRAN – The Iran Football Federation (IFF) announced on Sunday that it is set to complain to FIFA about Charlton Athletic’s refusal to hold a warm-up match in Spain over political issues.
According to an agreement between IFF and the English club, the two teams were scheduled to play a football friendly in the Marbella training camp in Spain, however, England Football Association sent a letter to the federation and cancelled the match quoting political problems, IFF’s vice-president Mehdi Taj said.
“We are going to lodge an official complaint to FIFA over Charlton’s behavior,” Taj added.
“The (world) football officials have already emphasized that politics should be kept away from sports, so, we ask, why the English disregarded FIFA’s motto,” Taj declared
