Iran’s views should be observed in providing fuel for Tehran reactor
Tehran Times Political Desk
TEHRAN – Supreme National Security Council secretary, Saeed Jalili, said on Sunday that Iran’s technical, economic views should be considered in providing nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor.
Jalili made the remarks in a meeting with Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Ryabkov.
Jalili also said common threats necessitate strategic cooperation between Russia and Iran.
Pointing to Iran’s dialogue with the 5+1 group (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany), Jalili said, “Certain powers are trying to impose the costs of their wrong behaviors on others.”
For his part, Ryabkov also called for cooperation between Tehran and Moscow especially in Central Asia and the Caspian Sea.
Ryabkov called the Islamic Republic an important country which Moscow is interested to expand relations with.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is an important and influential country at the international scene and therefore Moscow attaches special significance to its relation with Tehran,” Ryabkov said.
He also praised Iran’s positive approach in nuclear talks with 5+1 group, saying a continuation of talks will benefit all sides.
The Russian diplomat also said Iran has absolute right to nuclear enrichment and confirmed Iran’s views that talks over providing nuclear fuel for the Tehran nuclear reactor are merely of economic nature.
He also expressed hope that negotiations over the proposal on providing nuclear fuel for the reactor to bear fruit soon.
Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi told reporters on Sunday that Iran’s first priority is to buy uranium for the Tehran research reactor with a purity of 20 percent.
The leading lawmaker said Iran will only exchange its low-enriched uranium after it receives the 20 percent enriched uranium promised in the latest nuclear deal.
