Mottaki: U.S. policy change can reduce Tehran-Washington differences
TEHRAN (IRNA) – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Wednesday that the U.S. change of policy on Iran can help reduce differences between the two sides.
Mottaki made the remark during a joint press conference with his visiting counterpart from Lesotho in Tehran on Wednesday.
Adopting a correct and rational change in U.S. policy ccan help resolve many differences, he said.
U.S. Under Secretary of State William Burns has claimed that the Americans seek to establish bilateral ties with Iran based on mutual interests and respect, and they wish to witness Tehran’s reaction to this demand, asked one reporter.
The Iranian foreign minister said the U.S. change of policies could create a new atmosphere in regional and global developments.
Reaching a closer view might help resolve the problems, if backed by U.S. firm determination, he said.
""There are two types of problems in front of us, firstly the problems that indirectly affect Iran-U.S. relations and secondly the issues which leave direct impacts on both sides' relations,"" he said.
Priority is given to direct issues between Iran and the U.S., he said, adding that Iran gives priority to the promises made by U.S. officials in the past year on change of the country’s policies which can create a new atmosphere.
