Tehran Times Art Desk

TEHRAN -- Chinese and Japanese graphic design artists were the top winners of the 10th Tehran International Poster Biennial as was announced on Wednesday evening.

The first and second prizes went to Yang Jie and Liu Zheng from China and Hiroyuki Matsuishi from Japan won third place of the month-long biennial, which was held with theme of “Contemporary Man and the Environment”.

The biennial’s first prize at the main section was awarded to Gaku Osuki from Japan while Polish artist Leszek Zebrowski and Iran’s Mohammad Jamshidi won the second and third awards respectively.

All foreign winners were absent from the award presentation ceremony, so representatives from their countries’ embassies in Tehran accepted their awards.

“The importance of the biennial event can be seen from the fact that it drew 31 top artists from Finland, Poland, and other European countries, all of which are major centers of world class graphic art,” Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) curator Mahmud Shaluii said during the award presentation ceremony.

Stage directors Ali Rafiei, Hamid Samandarian and Nasrollah Qaderi were also honored with prizes in recognition of their attention to the key role of posters in theatrical performances.

The biennial exhibition will run at the TMCA through November 18.
