France says Iran has rejected nuclear deal

Iran has in effect rejected an IAEA- brokered deal on exchanging nuclear fuel for the Tehran reactor, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner claimed in an interview published on Sunday.

""In practice, the answer has almost been given and it is negative. That is a shame, a shame, a shame,"" Kouchner told the Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot.

According to AFP, Kouchner said so far attempts to reach a deal with Iran had not gone well.

""None of those meetings were particularly successful. We are waiting. It isn't good, and it is very dangerous,"" the top French diplomat told the newspaper.

Since Nicolas Sarkozy took office at the Élysée Palace the French government has taken a tough approach toward Iran.
