Heads of three branches of government to attend Majlis Day meeting

TEHRAN -- The heads of three branches of government will meet for the second time to mark the Majlis Day (Parliament Day) which falls on December 1.

The Majlis speaker, the president, and the judiciary chief, Guardian Council members, parliamentarians, and the judicial officials will attend the meeting.

Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani is also invited to the meeting.

Last year many political heavyweights attended the event among them former Majlis speakers Hashemi Rafsanjani, Ali Akbar Nateq-Nouri, Mahdi Karroubi, and Gholam-Ali Hadah-Adel; former president Mohammad Khatami; then judiciary chief Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi; chairman of the Supreme Leader’s office Mohammadi Golpaigani; and Guardian Council chief Ahmad Jannati.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was also invited to the meeting last year but he refused to attend. This year, the president has decided to attend the meeting.

Iran has named first day of December (tenth of Azar) as the Majlis Day to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the prominent cleric lawmaker Hassan Modarres who was killed in 1937 in prison under the Reza Shah regime
