Iran negotiating with Russia on S-300 missile deal: minister
Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN – The fact that Russia refrains from delivering the S-300 missile system to Iran is a clear breach of Tehran-Moscow contract, Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said on Wednesday.

According to a contract signed in 2005, Russia undertook to deliver the S-300 missile system to Iran.

However, Iran is currently negotiating with Russia over the deal, Vahidi stated.

Vahidi had previously said that Iran plans to design a long-range anti-aircraft system as an alternative to the Russian S-300 missile system.

He noted that a majority of Iranian experts are in favor of the proposal to design a domestically manufactured long-range anti-aircraft system as an alternative to the S-300 missile system.

The S-300 system, which can track targets and fire at aircraft 120 kilometers (75 miles) away, features high jamming immunity and is able to simultaneously engage up to 100 targets
