TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast has described the United States sanctions against Venezuelan state-owned oil firm as “the repetition of the U.S. failed experience.”

On May 24, the U.S. imposed sanctions against Petróleos de Venezuela S.A (PDVSA), one of the Venezuela’s giant oil companies, as part of its campaign to tighten sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, Press TV reported.
Under the sanctions, PDVSA is denied U.S. government contracts and banned from Washington’s export financing.
“The U.S. resort to the outmoded tool of imposing unilateral sanctions, on the one hand, indicates the isolation of this country in the international community, and on the other hand, is an insult to the will of other nations (who want) to choose their political and trade partners,” Mehmanparast said on Saturday.
He also praised the senior Venezuelan officials for taking firm stances against the U.S. unilateral measures, saying, “These stances show that the U.S. illegitimate and arrogant actions will not (negatively) affect the resolve of the independent and freedom-seeking nations.”
The foreign ministry spokesman added that the U.S. has no option but to accept and respect the independent identity of the Latin America.
