BOGOTA At least five bombs exploded in Bogota late on Sunday, killing one person and wrecking the offices of two presidential candidates, police said. Police also said that leftist guerrillas attacked a police post in the south of the Colombian capital around the same time but there were no injuries. The bombs went off more or less simultaneously about 10:15 p.m.

(0315 GMT). We're still evaluating the situation, a police spokesman told Reuters. There's damage to the windows and facades of buildings and one street kid has been killed. Two of the bombs ripped through two separate campaign offices belonging to ruling Liberal Party candidate Horacio Serpa, in central and southern neighborhoods of the capital. Serpa is one of the front-runners in presidential elections to be held on May 31.

A third explosion, in a working-class area of west Bogota, blew apart the campaign headquarters of former armed forces chief Harold Bedoya, running for the presidency on an independent ticket. The police spokesman said two other devices had also been detonated but he was not immediately able to say where they had gone off or what damage they had caused. (Reuter)
