TEHRAN UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) Has announced April 23 as the `World Book Day and the Author's Right'. The World Book Day was suggested first by the International Guild of Publishers and Spanish government to UNESCO's 28th conference and general assembly. Then the Author's Right was added to it based on a suggestion from the Russian Federation and was approved by the UNESCO members attendant at the conference's.

The reason for selection of this day derives from a ceremony in Catalonia in Spain. On this day the book-sellers dedicate a rose along with any book they sell. Still another better reason stands for the selection of this day. April 23 is concurrent with the death anniversary of a few outstanding authors and literary characters of the world like M. Cervantes and William Shakespeare. The objective behind the `World Book Day and the Author's Right' is to attract the attention of organizations, and governmental as well as private unions to this easiest and most economical way of acquiring knowledge, expressing feelings and thoughts, and the oldest means in maintaining humans' spiritual relationship.

Despite creation and development of modern and advanced media, it (book) still remains as an effective, attractive, available, and irreplaceable means that can survive as the greatest element for improvement, knowledge and cultural development, and making friendship and understanding among the nations around the world.
