DENVER A 24-year-old man hiking through a state park in Colorado fought off a mountain lion by poking his thumb in the cat's eye and stabbing it with a small knife, the Denver Post reported Friday. The attack occurred Thursday afternoon after a 30-minute standoff along a hiking trail on carpenter peak in Roxborough Park in Douglas county, south of Denver, officials said.

It was the first recorded attack on a human by a mountain lion in the park's 11-year history, the paper said. (DPA)
