PARIS Attackers cut the throats of 11 Algerian civilians south of Algiers and troops killed 89 members of opposition groups in military operations, Algerian newspapers said on Monday. The attackers erected a fake roadblock in Khemis Miliana area in Medea Province, 70 km (45 miles) south of Algiers, and stopped two trucks and a taxi. They forced 11 people out of the vehicles and cut their throats, said the French-language daily Le Matin. The vehicles were doused in petrol and set ablaze.

The newspaper did not say who was behind the killings which took place at dawn on Friday, just seven days after the massacre of 43 villagers in the same province. Troops meanwhile killed a total of 89 members of opposition groups in operations in four Algerian regions during the past six days, according to reports in Le Matin and Al Acil dailies.
