Iran Has Contributed a Lot to ECO

ALMATY - Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Onder Ozar said on Saturday the Islamic Republic of Iran has contributed a lot to the ECO and helped the regional organization reach its objectives. Addressing the ECO's foreign ministers, Ozar said Iran has allocated a large building in Tehran for the ECO's secretariat. He said Iran has confirmed the ECO's procedural change passed in Izmir last year and called on the other member states to follow suit.

ECO, the regional organization was formed by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan in 1985. It has now 10 member states with a total population of 300 million people. The newly-independent states of the former Soviet Union joined the regional organization in 1992. The leaders of the ECO member states are scheduled to hold annual summit meet in Almaty Monday. (IRNA)
