Filled Blockbusters on Hollywood's Summer Menu

LOS ANGELES The big-budget films Godzilla and Armageddon are tipped to be Hollywood's blockbusters this summer, but a smorgasbord of less expensive films should offer something to please almost every taste. About 40 percent of box-office receipts are reaped during the summer, and one formula for movie success has been the bigger the better. Godzilla is a case in point, with its ad campaign insisting that size does matter.

Debuting May 20, the movie continues the adventures of the colossal monster that spawned several hit films in Japan. Starring Frenchman Jean Reno and U.S. star Matthew Broderick, Godzilla wants to be the first film to reap 100 million dollars in one weekend. Its chances of doing so are enhanced by its memorial day weekend debut traditionally one the busiest for cinema-goers.

Armageddon takes a page from the book of the phenomenally successful Titanic by serving up love and disaster. (AFP)
