M Spokesman Deplores G-8 Communique on Iran

TEHRAN Spokesman of Iran's Froeign Ministry Mahmoud Mohammadi here Sunday criticized a number of the G-8 countries for maintianing their previous attitudes towards current international developments. He said the ministers of the G-8 countries had used a more realistic tone in their communique but had not considered the facts in relation to the Islamic Republic as well as they should have.

He said the United States had illogically supported the Zionist regime in the recent assembly for revising the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and added the irresponsible support of the United States for dangerous activitities of Israel entirely conflict with all international efforts for maitaining world peace and security. Referring to violent acts of the counterrevolutionary elements in Germany and Austria he said the enemies of the Islamic Republic seek to ruin the present atmosphere for promoting cultural collaboration between Iran and Europe. He expressed sorrow for the failure of German and Austrian officials to offer sufficient protection for cultural assemblies in those countries.

He said to promote dialogue between civilizations the first priority is to prevent the operation of counterrevolutionaries and violent groups. (IRNA)
