Arab League Calls For Closer Iran-Arab Ties

ATHENS The Secretary General of the Cairo-based Arab League Esmat Abdul Maguid has expressed his aspiration for strengthening and supporting the roots of cooperation between Iran and the Arab world for the sake of mutual interests. Egyptian daily Al-Ahram on Thursday quoted Maguid saying that during his participation in the Islamic summit in Tehran last December and his meeting with the Iranian president, he observed realistic efforts by the Iranian side to promote cooperation with the Arabs. The Arab League chief underlined that Iran represents a strategic Maguid hoped that the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi to the United Arab Emirates would succeed in resolving the problem of the three islands in the Persian Gulf through negotiations.
