BELFAST A car bomb allegedly left by Irish Republican dissidents was defused close to a police station in Northern Ireland, British security sources said on Sunday. The security alert in the city of Armagh happened in the run-up to a referendum on a peace plan to resolve decades of conflict over British rule of the province. Police said the device contained 500 lbs (227 kg) of home-made explosives.
