Russia Warns Pakistan Off Replying to Indian Nuclear Tests

MOSCOW The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday warned Pakistan that it could expect a highly negative reaction from Moscow if it replied to India's nuclear tests in kind, reported the Interfax agency. A ministry source said Russia hoped Pakistan will take the appeals from the international community into consideration and refrain from carrying out a nuclear explosion in reply to India. The Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday that pressure was mounting on him every hour to give a matching response to India's tests, but noted he would appeal to the international community for guidance.

Kremlin spokesman Sergei Yastrzhembsky said late Monday that the Group of Eight industrialized countries would react as firmly to Pakistani nuclear tests as it had to those launched by India last week. (AFP)
