Russia Won't Forego Nuclear Cooperation With Iran

MOSCOW The Russian Minister of Nuclear Energy Yevgeny Adamov said on Monday that his country would not submit to Western pressure to forego its economic interests in Iran. Adamov's remark was in reference to the Russian plan to construct a nuclear power plant in Iran's Bushehr. The U.S. is pressuring Russia to stop its cooperation with Iran to complete Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Adamov made the remark in an interview with Moscow's television during the visit of head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Gholamreza Aqazadeh to Balakovo Nuclear Plant in Saratov region. Stressing Russian observance of all regulations set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Adamov said that Russia is committed to timely deliverance of the Bushehr plant to Iran. The Iranian head of Atomic Energy Organizaiton, in a speech during the visit, underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran would never use Russian nuclear technology for military purposes.
