    Traditional games festival held in eastern Iran 

    A festival featuring traditional games was held in the eastern province of South Khorasan on Friday for the first time. Ritual dance, folklore music, camel riding, and ball games were among the recreational activities during the one-day event which was held in a tourist resort in Khusf.  Participants competed against one another in five teams in two sections of men and women.  The games are supposed to bring a spirit of happiness and keep ancient traditions alive.  MQ/MG

    Median antiquities unearthed in Hamedan 

    During a road construction project a collection of antiquities dating back to Median era (8th to 7th centuries BC) were found in the city of Hamedan, western Iran, on Tuesday.  The antiquities including centuries-old tools and potteries are believed to be the remains of the ancient city of Ecbatana.     The photo shows tents established to home people whose houses were partially or completely destroyed in a massive earthquake which hit the province of Kermanshah in western Iran. The 7.3 magnitude tremor, which happened on the evening of November 12, left about 130,000 homeless. The interior minister has said work has started for construction of provisional houses as the winter is quickly approaching. He said efforts for building permanent homes will begin in a month by the Housing Foundation.
