TEHRAN -- An Iranian artist is currently creating unique illuminations for a copy of the Holy Quran, which is expected to be ready for publication in the upcoming years.

“The entire Quran will be inscribed on 604 pages and each page will have dimensions of 114x114cm,” Sahmeddin Zamani told the Persian service of MNA on Sunday.

Zamani has been working on the project for over 42 years and has completed 102 surahs (chapter) out of 114 so far.

He added that the holy verses will be inscribed at the center of each page embraced by floral motifs, and that each surah will have its own specific designs and colors.

In addition, the cover of the Quran has been embellished by designs of 114 types of flowers, in reference to the number of surahs in the Holy Quran, he said.

Zamani expressed hope to be able to complete the project and that he can publish it in Iran.

“Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately, the public sector pays no attention to these types of artworks and I think if it is published in Iran, it would be delayed for several years,” he added.

Several pages of the book are currently on display in an exhibition at Ibn Sina Cultural Center. The exhibit runs until August 2.
