TEHRAN -- Actor/filmmaker Majid Vasheqani has completed a documentary about Iranian underground music bands in Iran.

Entitled “Red Diamond”, the documentary has been produced for broadcast on IRIB’s Channel 1.

“The documentary has a new format and covers current issues in this field. It contains interviews with music experts and shows the studios where this type of music is recorded,” Vasheqani told the Persian service of MNA on Saturday.

“In addition, pop singers, police and those who are interested in this type of music have been interviewed in this doc. However, we are determined to leave the judgment about underground music to the viewers,” he added.

All singers and bands must obtain a working license from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. They also have to receive the ministry’s approval for each song or album.

“Red Diamond” is a three-episode documentary. Cinematographer Ashkan Taheri and sound recorder Babak Salami are collaborating in this project.
