TEHRAN -- The Iranian short film “The Sound of Rain” won the Grand Prix at the Hangzhou Asian Film Festival in China last week.

Director Jalal Saedpanah received the award during the closing ceremony of the festival on October 20.

The film was screened in the Shine Asia Competition section.

“The Sound of Rain” is about a craftsman named Yadi who lives alone in a little hut atop one of the city’s roofs. The only one disturbing his peace is a small Mongolian boy who loves him above everything else.

Saedpanah also received the Golden Egg Prize at the Berlin-Duhok International Film Festival this year in September for “The Sound of Rain”, which had been crowned best short film at the Sulaimaniyah Kurdish Film Festival 2011.

In addition, the film won a best film award at the Black International Cinema in Berlin in May 2012.

The Hangzhou Asian Film Festival screened 483 submissions from 28 countries.
