| Mashhad to host film and photo festival on Ashura |

TEHRAN -- The 4th Ashura Film and Photo Festival will be held in December in Mashhad.
The festival, which has been organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center to promote photos and films on mourning ceremonies during the month of Muharram, will open on December 20.
Over 6000 films, screenplays and photos have been received by the secretariat of the festival, festival secretary Masud Zareian said in a press release on Friday.
The mourning ceremonies performed by Shia Muslims reach their climax on Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram upon which Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions were martyred.
