TEHRAN -- Iran plans to gather filmmakers from the Non-Aligned Movement member countries in a meeting to mull over the establishment of a NAM filmmakers’ union.
The meeting is scheduled to be held concurrent with the 31st Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran in February 2013, festival secretary Mohammadreza Abbasian said in a press release on Saturday.
The meeting will be organized by the Fajr festival, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Islamic Cultural Relations Organization.
“Due to political, economic and cultural affinities among the NMA member states, there are high potentials for information exchange, educational cooperation, joint productions, and many other cinematic programs,” Abbasian stated.
The establishment of a union for the filmmakers of the NAM member states could open new horizons for the cinematic organizations in the countries,” he added.
The 31st edition of the Fajr International Film Festival, which is Iran’s most important cinematic event, will be held from January 31 to February 10.
The presidency of NAM was officially handed over to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during the 16th summit of the organization, which was held in Tehran from August 26 to September 1.
