TEHRAN -- Writing the screenplay for a docudrama series based on the bestselling Iranian war narrative “Da” has recently commenced, director announced on Tuesday.

“The studies for the 26-episode series were completed two months ago by a research team that will collaborate with us in writing the screenplay,” Homayun Asadian told the Persian service of MNA.

“We have also begun connecting with other people who are informed about the subject of the film to use their information for writing the script,” he added.

He said that writing the screenplay will completed in about five months.

The docudrama will be produced by the Art Bureau of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization.

Asadian had previously said that the screenplay would be penned by Mohammadreza Gohari, the writer of the scripts for “Son of Earth”, “The Queen”, “A Cube of Sugar” and “So Close, So Far”, all among the Iranian smash hits.

“Da” tells the story of the local people’s resistance against the capture of Khorramshahr by the Iraqi army in the early days of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, which is known as the Sacred Defense in Iran.

It is based on novel of the same name which contains recollections by Seyyedeh Zahra Hosseini of the time.

The book was warmly welcomed in 2008 when it was published by the Sureh-Mehr Publications, which is affiliated with the Art Bureau.
