Majidi was selected for the position during a meeting of the group at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on Tuesday, the Permanent Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to UNESCO reported.
Ambassador and permanent delegate of Australia Gita Kamath was the former chairperson of Group ASPAC, which is composed of 50 member states.
Majidi had previously appointed the chairperson of the Group of Non-Aligned Movement for a 3-years term, which started on September 2012.
