TEHRAN -- The Tarkovsky Quartet, a group of German and French musicians, will perform at the 28th Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran in February.

The quartet is led by French pianist and composer François Couturier, who founded the group in 1977 to pay homage to Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky.

He draws inspiration from Tarkovsky’s films for the works performed by the group, which is also composed of Couturier’s compatriots: soprano saxophonist Jean-Marc Larché, accordionist Jean-Louis Matinier, and German cellist Anja Lechner.

The quartet made its international debut at the Bergamo Music Festival in Italy in April 2006. Since the release of “Nostalgia -- Song for Tarkovsky” in 2006, the group has become a regular presence on the European concert circuit and at the festivals.

It has previously performed concerts in Frankfurt, Athens, Florence, Umbria, and several other cities.

The 28th Fajr International Music Festival will be held from February 13 to 19.
