TEHRAN -- A huge clay bas-relief inspired by Hazrat Abbas (AS), a brother of Imam Hussein (AS) and his standard-bearer on Ashura day, was unveiled during a ceremony in Shahrud, Semnan Province on Saturday.

Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini and a number of cultural officials attended the event.

Formed of a single plate 2.5 centimeters thick, the bas-relief covers an area of 6 square meters, the Persian news websites announced on Sunday.

The artwork entitled “Nineveh Inscription” was created by a group of artists under the supervision of Reza Nuri.

The bas-relief depicts designs of the standard, leather water bag and the hands of Hazrat Abbas (AS).

Hazrat Abbas (AS) lost his hands and was martyred when he went to fetch water from the Euphrates River for the family of Imam Hussein (AS) on the day of Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram on which the Imam and his companions were martyred in 680.
