30th International Quran Competition kicks off in Tehran

TEHRAN -- The 30th International Quran Competition was inaugurated at the Summit Conference Hall in Tehran on Friday.
 
Reciters and memorizers from over 70 countries are participating in this year’s competition, the State Endowment and Charity Affairs Organization announced on Saturday.
 
Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini, Chairman of the Supreme Leader’s office Ayatollah Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, and Iran’s State Endowment and Charity Affairs Organization Director Hojjatoleslam Ali Mohammadi attended the opening ceremony.
 
Sheikh Anwar Shahat Anwar and Sheikh Yahya Raghib Sharkawi, two famous Quran reciters from Egypt, are also the guests of honor this year and are scheduled to recite Quran during the weeklong event.
 
Ikmal Zaidi bin Hashim from Malaysia, Rizwan Darwish from Syria, Junaidin Idris from Indonesia, Adel Khalil Mahmoud from Lebanon, and Abdel Monem Ahmed Mohammad from Sudan are some of the foreign members of the panel for the 30th International Quran Competition. 
 
Amir Aqaii, Reza Mir-Musaii, Mohammad Haj-Abolqasem, Mohammadreza Lotfiniai, and Mohammadreza Sotudehnia are among the Iranian jury members, and Iranian reciter Abdorrasul Abaii will be presiding over the panel.
 
Hashem Soltan-Nejad and Vahid Vakili from Iran will compete in the memorization and recitation categories during the event.
 
A seminar on Quranic research has also been arranged on the side section of the event.
