TEHRAN – Persian translations of books by the 2013 Nobel laureate Alice Munro have been on the bestseller list of Tehran’s Book City Institute over the past week.
Munro’s “Runaway”, “The Progress of Love”, “Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage” and “The Love of a Good Woman” were offered at the stores of the institute from early last week, the institute announced in a press release on Saturday.
“Runaway” was translated by Shaqayeq Qandehari and released by Ofoq in 2006. First published in 2004 by McClelland and Stewart, “Runaway” was awarded that year’s Giller Prize.
Mehri Sharafi translated “The Progress of Love” into Persian, which was released by Qoqnus Publications in 2013. The book won the 1986 Governor General’s Award for English Fiction, her third win of that award.
The Iranian actress Taraneh Alidusti translated “Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage” in 2012, which was released by Markaz Publications.
Shaqayeq Qandehari also translated “The Love of a Good Woman” into Persian. The book was released by Qatreh Publications. The book is a collection of eight stories that deal with Munro’s typical themes: secrets, love, betrayal and the stuff of ordinary lives.
“The View from Castle Rock” and “Passion” are other books by Munro that have been translated into Persian.
