|Colombian festival to hold Abbas Kiarostami retrospective||
TEHRAN – A retrospective of the world-renowned Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami will be held at the 54th International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias –FICCI in Colombia in March, 2014.
A lineup of Kiarostami’s films including “Taste of Cherry”, “The Wind Will Carry Us”, “Shirin”, “Ten”, “Ten by Ten”, “Certified Copy”, “Close Up”, “Where is the Friend’s Home?”, “Life Goes on” and “Under the Olive Trees” will be reviewed during the event, which will be held from March 13 to 19.
Since his films have never been shown before commercially in Colombia, the organizers have said that the retrospective will help the 73-year-old filmmaker to be better known to the public in the country.
Kiarostami is also scheduled to hold a master class at the festival.
In addition, he will conduct series of workshops entitled “Filming in Colombia with Abbas Kiarostami” at the Centro ÁTICO of the Universidad Javeriana of Bogota from March 3 to 12.
Kiarostami has made over 20 films, including fiction features, educational shorts, feature-length documentaries and telefilms.
He was awarded the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 for his film “Taste of Cherry”.
The oldest film event in Latin America, the Cartagena Film Festival promotes Colombian television programs, and films and videos from the region.
