33 troupes to compete in intl. section of Fajr festival

TEHRAN -- Thirty-three troupes from Iran and other countries will be competing in the international section of the 32nd Fajr International Theater Festival, which opens in Tehran and several other Iranian cities this evening.
 
Ten troupes have come from countries around the world and the rest are from Iran.
 
Iranian directors Arash Dadgar and Ofoq Iraji will stage William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” while the Greek dramatist Euripides’ “Medea” will be performed by a group directed by Milad Nikabadi.
 
In addition, Akbar Zanjanpur will direct Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya”, and “Socrates” directed by Hamidreza Naeimi will also appear on stage.
 
A troupe led by Iranian director Mohammad Yaqubi is scheduled to perform Irish playwright Martin McDonagh’s “The Pillowman”.
 
Polish director Wlodzimierz Staniewski will direct the Gardzienice Theater Troupe in “Pythian Oratorium”. He is also scheduled to hold a number of workshops during festival.
 
Italian director Anna Dora Dorno has brought Iranian theatergoers “Alone in the Crowd”.
 
Groups from Armenia, Canada, France, India, Norway South Korea and Spain will perform plays during the event, which runs until February 1.
