TEHRAN – The Tunisian ensemble led by oud virtuoso Anouar Brahem will give concerts during the 29th Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran, the organizers announced on Tuesday.

The ensemble will perform pieces in memory of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish at the Vahdat Hall on February 18 and 19.

German bass clarinetist Klaus Gesing, Swedish bassist Bjorn Meyer and Lebanese percussionist Khaled Yassine will accompany Brahem in the performances.

They will perform the compositions selected from the album “The Astounding Eyes of Rita” dedicated to Mahmoud Darwish (1941-2008). The album was recorded in 2008 by producer Manfred Eicher.

The combination of bass clarinet with oud suggests a link to Anouar’s “Thimar” trio, but this East-West performance often feels closer to his previous album “Barzakh”.

The 29th Fajr International Music Festival will be held in Tehran from February 13 to 20.
