A number of cineastes including Jamshid Mashsayekhi, Behruz Afkhami, Mohammadeza Forutan, Akbar Zanjanpur, vocalists Shahram Nazeri and Pari Zanganeh and Bokhara Managing Director Ali Dehbashi attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony Afkhami said, “The people of Iran and the capital Tehran have discovered among themselves an extraordinary, uncanny writer named Masud Kimiaii, who has captured their hearts with his stories.
“He lives like a stranger and looks like a stranger and makes words out of his looks. His words turn into pictures and stories and sometimes they turn into films or novels,” Afkhami said.
“His stories are beautiful and magnificent, bearing a tone of sorrow. There is a poison in his words which takes the reader into a half-conscious mode; most of his films are like this,” he added.
“To understand his people, their behavior, and their words, one must be half-awake and half-sleep, since his people are like this. His people walk a great deal, either alone or in a group, they walk in the sleepy cities and their streets,” he explained.
The ceremony continued with a screening of excerpts from Kimaiii’s movies including “Mercedes”, “Verdict”, “Metropol” and “Crime”.
Kimiaii was the last to speak and expressing his thanks to all the participants said, “This was an unforgettable night for me organized by my dear friend Dehbashi. When I look back at this friendship, I saw that we have been friends for years but have seen each other infrequently. I see we are getting old but we still love each other. My friends have made it a great honor to be here and I thank them all”.
