TEHRAN – Voice actor Changiz Jalilvand and actors Saeid Pursamimi and Fatemeh Gudarzi were honored for their lifetime achievements during the opening ceremony of the 2nd Tehran Jasmine International Film Festival on Saturday.
Iran Cinema Organization Director Hojjatollah Ayyubi, festival secretary Hossein Mosafer-Astaneh, and a large of number of cinematic figures attended the ceremony held in the northern city of Amol, Mazandaran Province.
“The cinema in its classic form is fading away,” Pursamimi said in his acceptance speech during the ceremony.
“In the old days, hundreds of people used to watch a film in a theater, and sit and talk about the film and exchange views,” he said.
“However, most of the fans are watching films on their cell phones individually now. We must think what steps need to be taken, so that cinema can make more cultural progress,” he said.
“I think one of the best ways is to hold festivals to save cinema from isolation,” he stated.
Jalilvand also expressed his surprise over such a ceremony and said, “I hope we can attract more people to the cinema with these films and festivals”.
Actress Gudarzi said that it was still too soon to honor her for lifetime achievements, “I am still a child in this profession. I still consider myself a beginner in cinema in comparison with masters Pursamimi and Jalilvand,” she said.
Several number of Iranian and foreign films will be competing in the second edition of the festival in Tehran and Amol, which runs until August 28.
