TEHRAN -- A group of cultural officials, artists and actors gathered at the Museum and House of Eternal Figures to unveil a wax effigy of master of miniature Mahmud Farshchian.
The museum, located in Tehran’s Sadabad Cultural Historical Complex and home to a number of effigies of veterans designed and created by Hamid Lankarani, hosted the guests here on Wednesday.
Farshchian was born in 1930 in Isfahan, a city renowned for its art and skilled artists, and studied painting under the supervision of Haj Mirza Aqa Emami and Isa Bahadori. He later traveled to Europe where he studied painting and conducted research in museums for several years.
As usual, the ceremony began with short speeches by the guests including some of the enduring figures and artists as well as Farshchian himself, ending with the unveiling of the effigy.
Secretary of the Eternal Figures Committee Mahmud Asadi began by saying that the committee has made efforts all these years to help the youth not to forget their great masters.
“The master has been living in the United States for years but his works are not influenced by modernism and I am pleased that we are all here to unveil the effigy of such a great man,” Asadi said.
Actor Ali Nasirian whose wax effigy was recently unveiled continued, “I have no knowledge of this art but what is of significance is that he skillfully portrays tradition with the help of Persian myths. The colors and compositions are simple and yet innovative. When one looks at one of his masterpieces, a window opens wide in front of his eyes toward all that is beautiful.”
The veteran actor of stage and screen Ezzatollah Entezami next said, “I was in New York for a festival where I met the master in his house and was fascinated by all his works. He handed me a huge book of his masterpieces signed in my name. My eyes were filled with tears of joy and I have kept the book in my house as a treasured sacred book.”
Actress and dubber Jaleh Olov regarded each stroke of the master as a means of bringing out the image of heaven to one’s soul.
Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) director Mahmud Shaluii called Farshchian a lover whose love and affection are manifested in his artworks.
Farshchian modestly expressed his thanks to all the guests and wished the best of health for all the Iranian people.
The wax effigy was unveiled by Entezami and Nasirian where calligrapher and painter Mohammad-Jalil Rasuli said, “Farshchian is a man of love, love and love.”
Farshchian’s masterpieces have been hosted by numerous museums and exhibitions worldwide. He is recognized as the most important modernizing influence in the field of miniatures. His name has been registered on Britain’s list of 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st century and collectors feel it a great honor to possess one of his creations.
