TEHRAN -- The village of Polur near Mount Damavand hosted the 32nd edition of the Land Art Festival that ran from June 29 to July 1.
Organized by Iranian land artist Ahmad Nadalian, the participants performed their land art at the Gol-e Zard Valley, a beautiful area near Polur, 65 kilometers northeast of Tehran Province.
Sculptures made of natural flowers were among the items created by the group and were put on display at the festival.
In addition, the latest collection by Nadalian featuring lumps of rock salt was also put on show.
Lumps of rock salt are just the right thing for the goats and the sheep. These fairly good-sized lumps of salt are usually hung up in suitable places by villagers where the herd can easily get at them.
Providing salt licks is very important for goats as they secrete a fair amount of sodium and chlorine ions in their milk. The salt often helps to tone up their systems and may even have some beneficial effect in removing worms from their bodies.
As the salt is licked by goats, beautiful shapes are produced from the lumps, resulting in a new source for Nadalian’s latest collection.
Nadalian is famous for his engravings, which are mostly images of fish, and animals and the hands and feet of human beings.
His works are now scattered in many countries including Italy, Germany, the U.S., Spain, France, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, and his homeland Iran.
He is also is the founder of the Paradise: International Residential Center for Creation and Exhibition of Art in Nature.
Nadalian has constructed a small building in the valley beside the Polur River as a temporary residence for international artists. The building is located in “Paradise Garden”, adjacent to Golpar Spring in the village of Polur.
