-- Fatemeh Motamed-Arya won the best actress award at the World Film Festival in Montréal for her role in the Iranian film “Here without Me”, organizers announced on Monday.

Bahram Tavakkoli directed the film that is about a middle-aged single mother, who lives with her sole son and a disabled daughter, each of them seeking their own dreams and desires.

Tavakkoli is also the writer of the screenplay of the film, which is currently on screen in Iranian theaters.

The best actor award was shared by Borys Szyc for “The Mole” by Polish director Rafael Lewandowski, and Danny Huston for “Playoff”, an Israeli-French joint production directed by Eran Riklis.

“Come as You Are” by Belgian director Geoffrey Enthoven won the festival’s best film award Grand prix des Americas and Brigitte Maria Bertele from Germany received the best director prize for “The Fire”.
 
The Japanese film “Chronicle of My Mother” by Masato Harada won the Special Grand Prix of the jury, which was chaired by Spanish director Vicente Aranda.
