They got together about 2 months ahead to review programs for the annual event and also to pay tribute to those who contributed to the previous edition of the festival.

The festival is held annually to celebrate Iran’s National Cinema Day (Sept. 12) and is sponsored by the House of Cinema.

The program, held at the Mellat Cinematic Complex, was attended by the secretary of the celebration Kiumars Purahmad, Managing Director of the Iranian House of Cinema Mohammad-Mehdi Asgarpur, and executive manager of the festival Maziar Miri.

“The cinema celebration is intended to act like an umbrella to protect the cineastes. We need to remember that Iran’s cinema is still a fragile seedling that needs lots of care,” Purahmad said.

“We are here to say that we are present in great numbers and all of us are determined to remain united. We should remember the officials are our guests and we are their hosts, so let us not permit the guests to divide the hosts. The officials’ main concern is politics but our love and concern is only cinema, so let us care for our cinema,” he added.

Asgarpur next continued, “The cinema celebration is 15 years old now and (filmmaker Seifolla) Daad (one of the organizers) is no longer among us. I believe our cinematic friends must make use of any opportunity to say these words. We need to be concerned about our cinema.”

He expressed his thanks to those who had always helped run the celebration in past years and asked all the cineastes to make the best use of the event to boost solidarity among the cinematic community.

The program was brought to an end by honoring Qasem Qolipur as head of the jury, and Shapur Aalidaii, Mohsen Hashemi, Mansureh Vaferi, and Hossein Monajati for their contributions to the fourteenth edition of the celebration.
