| Iranian movies win major awards at St. Petersburg festival |

Asghar Farhadi’s Golden Bear winner “Nader and Simin: A Separation” was awarded the Grand Prix of the festival, while “Gesher” by Vahid Vakilifar grabbed Choice of the Jury special award, the Persian service of IRNA reported on Sunday. Taking part in the Best of the Best competition section, “Nader and Simin: A Separation” was competing with seven other international award winners including “She Monkeys” by Lisa Aschan (Sweden) and “Beyond the Road” by Charly Braun (Brazil). “Gesher” was also screened at the New Territories section of the festival. A portrayal of the break-up of a marriage, “Nader and Simin” won a Golden Bear for best film at the Berlin film festival and its cast ensemble received best actor and actress Silver Bears at the event. The film “Gesher” is the story of three men who in pursuit of a better life leave their homes and head for Asaluyeh, one of the richest gas producing regions in southern Iran. The festival, in its second year, was headed by well-known Russian scriptwriter Rustam Ibragimbekov.
