TEHRAN -- Three pieces of kiswah, the black brocade cloth that covers the Kaba in Mecca, will be unveiled at Tehran’s Malek Museum and Library here on Wednesday.
The pieces, each measuring six meters, are among the collections kept at the museum for the past five decades and will be displayed on the occasion of the anniversary of Be’that, the day commemorating Muhammad’s (S) appointment to Prophethood (June 30).
Each piece bears embroideries of the holy verses of the Quran and names of Allah in gold, while names of some of the tailors are also stitched in the lining, the Persian service of MNA reported on Tuesday.
A new kiswah, made of five 14m high pieces, used to be made in Egypt every year and carried to Mecca, but over the past few years, a big factory has been established in Mecca where skilled artisans produce the kiswah every year.
Malek Museum and Library also has several other programs including an exhibition of rare copies of book covers.
The museum is located on Imam Khomeini Street.
