The Iranian radio drama channel, a state-run radio network which focuses on plays, was inaugurated here on Monday with an event where thirteen veterans were honored by IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) director Ezzatollah Zarghami.
Heidar Saremi, Mahin Nasri, Hamid Manuchehri, Pari Amir-Hamzeh, Mehdi Sharafi, Mahdad Tavakkoli, Davud Naqlani, Akbar Zanjanpur and Gholamreza Karami were among those who were honored.
The ceremony began with calling veteran radio and television actress Jaleh Olov on stage where she expressed thanks to IRIB officials for establishing the channel on behalf of the others.
“Those active in radio have been waiting a long time to see the day when they would have a channel of their own,” she said.
Radio drama dates back 63 years in Iran, she said, adding, “Artists tolerated all the deficiencies all these years to help radio drama stay alive and today we see the positive results.”
Mir-Taher Mazlumi, as the representative of the younger generation of radio also expressed his appreciation to the organizers.
IRIB Deputy Director in radio Mohammad-Hossein Sufi also present at the ceremony regarded radio as an impressive media playing a major role in society.
“Theater has always held a significant position in radio and has never lost its high status in society over all these years,” he added.
“This channel contributes to the growth in literature and drama. The drama channel is due to air programs from 5pm to 6am, but will increase its hours in the coming months,” he stated.
Zarghami was also pleased that one of the wishes of the radio veterans had finally come true.
“It seems the radio drama channel will find its fans within a very short time,” he added.
The programs of the radio channel are available on www.radionamayesh.ir
