TEHRAN -- Iran’s National Orchestra conducted by Arash Guran plans to give concerts in Shiraz on September 14 and 15 to raise funds for the victims of the recent earthquakes in the northwestern Iranian province of East Azarbaijan.

Vocalist Alireza Qorbani will be accompanying the orchestra singing a selection of compositions performed by the orchestra in previous concerts, the Public Relations Office of the Iran Music Association announced on Monday.

The concerts will be performed at the Afifabad Garden in collaboration with the Shiraz Music Department, Iran Music Association Director Ali Torabi said.

Iranian artists and athletes have so far organized several fundraising programs for the victims.

On August 11, two successive earthquakes measuring 6.2 and 6 on the Richter scale hit the cities of Ahar, Varzaqan and Haris in East Azarbaijan Province. The strong earthquakes left thousands of people homeless in villages. Official figures put the number of the dead at 306 and the injured at over 2000.
