Ms. Khar made the remarks during an interview with ISNA published on Friday, which had been conducted on the sidelines of the XVI Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Tehran from August 26 to 31.

“Pakistan regards its relations with its neighbors as very important, and the importance is greater in regard to Iran because the Pakistani nation shares cultural and religious affinities and many common values with the Iranian nation,” the Pakistani foreign minister said, according to the Persian service of ISNA.

“Over the past years, the level of relations between the two countries has increased, and the Pakistani president (Asif Ali Zardari) puts special focus on the expansion of ties with Iran. Pakistan and Iran can cooperate with each other in various areas and fields,” she stated.

She also said that Tehran and Islamabad should enhance their cooperation on international issues.
