TEHRAN – In a message issued on Monday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez on his recent victory in the presidential election.
“I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to you and the great Venezuelan nation on your re-election as president,” Ahmadinejad wrote.
“In fact, the Venezuelan people, through electing you, guaranteed the continuation of the Bolivarian Revolution and the social, economic, scientific, and cultural development…” he stated.
In the letter, Ahmadinejad also emphasized the need to utilize the two counties’ great potential to increase cooperation and enhance ties in all spheres.
The National Electoral Council of Venezuela announced on Sunday that Chavez had secured 54.4% of the votes, while his rival Henrique Capriles was behind with 44.9%.
