 TEHRAN – Iran’s Esteghlal defeated Al Ain of the UAE while another Iranian representative Sepahan lost to Al Gharafa of Qatar on Wednesday in the Asian Champions League group stage.
Esteghlal defeated Al Ain 2-0 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in Group D. Jlloyd Samuel scored in the 64th minute with a powerful header.
Nine minutes later Farhad Majidi, who came off the bench, extended Esteghlal’s lead.
In Group C, Sepahan lost to Al Gharafa 3-1 in Doha’s Thani Bin Jassim Stadium.
Ali Ahmadi gave the visiting team a lead in the 14th minute. Djibril Cisse opened the scoring for Qatari team in the 17th minute and completed his brace in 58th minute.
Majid Siddiq scored Al Gharafa’s third goal in the dying moments of the match.
