Iran finished the FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship in Turkey in the prestigious fifth place.
The Persians recovered from a set down to achieve a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18) victory over the home team of Turkey in front of the many noisy supporters of both teams at Baskent Volleyball Hall.
“It was the hardest match for us in the competition because it is important to finish tournaments with a win. We won the match after raising our motivation in the beginning of the second set. I am happy that we managed to finish this championship by taking a win,” Iran coach Farhad Nafarzadeh said in the post match news conference.
“However, I feel bad about playing against Turkey in our last match. They are like our brothers. I would have preferred to play this match against some other team or to face Turkey in the gold medal match. I congratulate their team.” He added.
Milad Ebadipour Ghara tallied 19 points to top the scorers’ chart of the match. Baturalp Burak Gungor and Metin Toy were the best scorers for Turkey with 14 points each, according to FIVB.com
