TEHRAN – Iran has temporarily cancelled a plan to send warships to the Atlantic Ocean, the Fars News Agency reported on Saturday.
In January, the Iranian Navy’s 29th fleet of warships, comprised of the Khark logistic helicopter carrier and the Sabalan destroyer, set sail from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas for the Atlantic Ocean on a three-month voyage.
The voyage was supposed to be the Iranian Navy’s first-ever mission to the Atlantic Ocean.
The report also said that the commander of the Iranian Navy has confirmed that the mission has been cancelled.
“Considering the situation in the region, such changes may happen in the plans of naval fleets of warships,” Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.
In addition, Sayyari said that the 30th fleet of warships, comprised of the Alvand destroyer and the Bushehr logistic warship, which will be sent to the open seas in the near future, is likely to sail to the Atlantic Ocean.
